Four key experiences Jessica Webster’s art brings to your home

Q: What do you hope collectors take away from interacting with your art?

When I create a painting, my greatest hope is that it does more than hang on a wall. I want it to bring a specific energy and a set of feelings into your life and your home. For my collections, I focus on four key experiences:

1. A Sense of Wonder

First and foremost, I want my art to spark a sense of wonder. Much of my work explores the theme of love, but the delicate floral paintings are also meant to inspire a feeling of peaceful awe.

I create this feeling by balancing two things:

  • Getting Lost in the Details: I pay intensive attention to the intimate shapes and forms, inviting you to look closer.

  • Letting Go: At the same time, these details dissolve into what feel like transcendent washes of colour, giving your mind a place to drift and wander.

It’s this journey between the familiar and the "beyond" that creates a moment of wonder—a mental space where you can feel without needing to define.

2. A Spirit of Playfulness

Collectors often tell me they feel a sense of playfulness in my work. Whether it’s a floral piece or an intimate nude, the paintings are about the joy of being present in a moment. What’s more playful than amor, or the simple, spontaneous act of stopping to smell a beautiful flower?

You can see this playful energy in the brushstrokes. I don’t hide the spontaneous marks or the moments where paint breaks free from a perfect line. The act of painting becomes a visible dance with light and colour. As you move around the room, the painting can even seem to change, revealing new textures and shimmers of light.

This dance between surface and depth is an invitation to stop and take a second look.

3. A Space for Your Own Reflection

I believe an artwork is a conversation. I may start it with my brush, but the piece is only truly finished when you, the viewer, bring your own thoughts and feelings to it.

If we see art as just a product to be consumed, we miss the most beautiful part of the experience. My goal is to create works that invite you in with wonder and playfulness, but then open up hidden depths for you to explore in quiet contemplation.

I don’t decide the ultimate meaning of a painting; it’s created in the personal connection you form with it.

4. A Promise of Authenticity

Finally, I offer you my authentic creative vision. Over the past twenty years, I have built a dedicated practice, and while many artists inspire me, I’ve been disciplined in finding a voice that is uniquely my own. I have carefully stripped away any element from my process that didn’t feel true to me.

The result is a genuine artistic mission: to explore the dance between surface and depth, texture and colour, and abstraction and figuration. This is my life's work, and it’s an ongoing journey.

When you bring a piece into your home, you are not just acquiring a painting; you are becoming part of this intricate and lifelong creative process.

I invite you to explore the collections and find the piece that starts a conversation with you.
